About Me

Poet, poetry course facilitator, performer and YouTuber.

I have always written. As a young girl, while walking through countryside, raw lines of poetry seeped through my mind. For years I wrote secretly, squirreling poems between floorboards of various homes. In 2013 I was thrilled to be offered a place at the Manchester Writing School and began writing poetry for real.

I gained my Master of Arts in Creative Writing (Poetry) in 2017, from the Manchester Writing School, led by Carol Anne Duffy, Poet Laureate.

My fascination with Anne Lister began a little earlier, one Friday evening in 2014. After an exhausting week teaching, I was looking for source material for my next poem. I picked up my new copy of ‘I know my own heart’. It was the early hours of the morning when I noticed the clock again.

The following morning I found myself at Shibden Hall, Halifax, the home of Anne Lister. The day was spent languishing around an almost empty house, talking to staff, stroking floorboards and being completely swept up into the world of Anne Lister.

Later I went on to facilitate poetry workshops at Shibden Hall (and various venues) and spent many worthwhile hours wandering aimlessly around Shibden’s grounds and Hall.

I am passionate about bringing poetry and the story of Anne Lister to people. I write in a style which is accessible and I hope, enjoyable.

As well as being an educator, I am also a performer and you can see me performing some of my work over on my YouTube Channel.

I am currently writing my first full-length poetry collection based on Anne Lister.

I hope my enthusiasm is infectious, and my background in both poetry and teaching helps to make my workshops an unmissable and informative experience for all.
